I’m the receptionist at parker simone, but that may be a bit misleading. Because being a receptionist for this dynamic, ever on the move, growing group of accountants is more akin to herding cats.
I hunt down misplaced files like a film noir detective looking for crucial evidence. I make sure packages get sent where they should and documents get put away where they can be found again. And I juggle the demands of the staff and anticipate their needs before they even know they have them.
But as much as my colleagues appreciate my brilliant herding instincts, I think they—and our clients—are most appreciative of another skill I have.
You see, I’m also a performer, a writer and a musician, and with my artist’s eye, I can step back just enough to observe the rhythm of the office—the ebb and flow—and jump in when needed, always keeping my sense of humour. When those around me feel optimistic and happy, it makes me feel good. So along with professionalism, I’d say the most important quality I bring to parker simone is a love and understanding of people.
Not to underestimate how well I herd cats.
